Special Warfare Operator First Class (SEAL) Kevin Richard Ebbert was a man of quiet courage and immense compassion. Born on January 23, 1980, in Arcata, California, Kevin was known for his calm demeanor and his remarkable intelligence. He was an avid outdoorsman, an accomplished musician, and a dedicated student who earned a bachelor's degree in music from UC Santa Cruz. Driven by a powerful calling to serve his country, he enlisted in the Navy in 2004.

Kevin's sharp mind and unshakeable resolve led him directly to BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training, which he completed in 2007. He was then assigned to SEAL Team Four and later became a Special Operations Independent Duty Corpsman, one of the most highly trained combat medics in the military. It was in this role that he combined his love for medicine with his desire to serve, hoping to become a physician after his military service.

During his deployments, Kevin's medical expertise was invaluable. He treated countless teammates and civilians, often in the most dangerous conditions. His unwavering dedication to saving lives, even in the face of his own risk, was a hallmark of his character. He was a highly decorated combat veteran, recognized for his heroism and selfless service with numerous awards, including two Bronze Stars with Valor, a Purple Heart, and a Combat Action Ribbon.

On November 24, 2012, while on a patrol in Afghanistan's Uruzgan Province, Kevin was tragically killed. He was serving as a support element team leader during a joint patrol when his element came under fire. Wounded in the initial ambush, he disregarded his own safety to direct his team to cover, notify command, and coordinate suppressive fire. His actions saved the lives of his teammates.

In the wake of his death, Kevin was remembered as a man of integrity, humility, and unwavering dedication. His family recalled him as a gentle soul who was "tough as nails." Kevin was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, joining the ranks of America's honored dead.

Today, Kevin's legacy lives on. The Kevin Ebbert Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, was established in 2024 to honor his memory and commitment to service. The foundation provides grants in four key areas that reflect Kevin’s values and interests: medical students, environmental research, veteran services (with a focus on Special Operations Veterans), and students pursuing music degrees.
