Born on September 16th, 1974, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Christopher graduated from White Oak High School in 1993. As a junior he stood only about five foot seven and 140 pounds, but his high school football coach remembered he "had no fear" when it came to physical contact, an early sign of the man he would become.

Christopher enlisted in the U.S. Navy and earned his Trident, rising through the ranks to Special Warfare Operator Petty Officer First Class. He served with SEAL Team Five and SEAL Team Seven before earning assignment to the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, the Navy's most elite special mission unit.

His mother, Diane, put it simply: "If Chris thought he could, he would try." That mindset carried him through a career of frequent, often unannounced deployments, the kind that meant showing up at home for only a few hours before disappearing again, always with a quiet word to his family rather than a full explanation.

Christopher made his home with his wife, Angelina, and their daughter, Samantha, who was about to turn fifteen at the time of his death. Just days before his final mission, he emailed her about their holiday plans. On August 6, 2011, Petty Officer Campbell was aboard the CH-47 Chinook helicopter callsign Extortion 17, part of a Naval Special Warfare quick reaction force responding to support U.S. Army Rangers engaged with insurgent forces in Wardak Province. When the helicopter was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade, all 38 aboard were killed, the greatest single-incident loss of life in Naval Special Warfare history. He was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Chief Petty Officer Christopher G. Campbell approached every challenge, physical or otherwise, without fear. His daughter, his wife, and the men who served beside him carry that fearlessness forward in his memory.
