How to Update Your Subscription Payments

If you subscribed using Shop Pay, your payment card is updated through your Shop account — not on Bonefrog. Here’s exactly how to do it.

Why can’t I update my card on Bonefrog?

When you checkout with Shop Pay, your payment information is stored securely inside your Shop Pay account — not on the Bonefrog Coffee site. This is a security feature: your card details are protected in two places at once, and only you can update them.

That means we cannot change your card for you, and you won’t see an “update card” option inside your Bonefrog subscription page. Instead, you need to log in to your Shop account and update it there.

It only takes a couple of minutes. Follow the six steps below.

Check if you’re seeing a “Card declined” message

If you tried to update your card inside your Bonefrog subscription window and saw a message like the one below — “The card was declined” — this guide is for you.

This message appears because your subscription is tied to Shop Pay, and the card on file lives inside your Shop account. The fix is to update your card directly in Shop, then return here.

What this means

Your Bonefrog subscription is active — we just need a working card from your Shop Pay account to charge it. No need to resubscribe.

WHAT IT IS: Shop is a free shopping app and website (shop.app) by Shopify. Think of it as a single account that works across every store that uses Shopify, which is over a million merchants worldwide.

Go to shop.app in a web browser

Method 1: Go to the Shop Pay app on your phone or Method 2. Open a web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) on your computer or phone and go to shop.app

Sign in using the same email address or phone number that’s linked to your Shop Pay account — this is the email you used when you subscribed to Bonefrog Coffee.

Important

We were told that you must use the web browser version of shop.app — not the Shop mobile app. The mobile app does not let you update your saved Shop Pay card. But we did test it to update a card and it worked. So if one does not work, try the second method.

Open your account — click your profile photo

Once you’re signed in, click your profile photo in the lower-left sidebar. This opens your Shop account view, where you’ll see all of your saved info: items you’ve viewed, brands you follow, your order history, and — most importantly — your Subscriptions.

Click “Subscriptions” and find Bonefrog Coffee

In the left sidebar, click Subscriptions. You’ll see a list of every active subscription tied to your Shop Pay account.

Find Bonefrog Coffee in the list and click it.

Click “Update payment method”

On the Bonefrog Coffee subscription detail page, you’ll see your next payment date, the card currently on file, and a black Update payment method button. Click it.

Note

The “Manage subscription” button below sends you back to Bonefrog to pause, skip, or cancel. For card updates, always use Update payment method.

Add your card and save it

You’ll see all the cards saved in your Shop Pay account. The card currently charging your Bonefrog subscription will have a checkmark next to it.

Click + Add a payment method at the bottom of the list, then enter your new card details. We recommend giving it a nickname (for example, “Bonefrog Card” or “Coffee Subscription”) so you can easily tell it apart from your other saved cards.

Once added, select the new card so the checkmark moves to it, then click Save.

Don’t forget the checkmark

Adding a card isn’t enough — you must also select it so the checkmark appears beside it before clicking Save. Otherwise your subscription will keep trying the old card.

You’re all set — thank you.

Your next Bonefrog order will charge to your new card automatically. No further action needed on our end.

What is Shop Pay?

Shop Pay is the express checkout option built by Shopify. Save your shipping address and payment info once, and every future order at Bonefrog — or any of the million-plus Shopify stores — checks out in seconds. No re-entering card numbers. No filling out address forms.

What is the Shop app?

Shop is Shopify's free mobile app (also at shop.app). It pulls every order you've placed at Bonefrog — and any other Shopify store — into one feed with live shipping updates, delivery ETAs, and tracking maps.

Download it free on iOS or Android.

Is Shop Pay safe?

Yes. Shop Pay is built and operated by Shopify, the same platform that powers our entire store. Your payment info is encrypted and stored on Shopify's secure servers — Bonefrog never sees or stores your card details. Shop Pay uses SMS verification to confirm it's you on every checkout.

Do I need a Shop account to order from Bonefrog?

No. You can check out as a guest, with a credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or any other option at checkout. Shop Pay is optional — it just makes future orders faster.

How do I track my Bonefrog order in the Shop app?

If you checked out with the same email you use for Shop, your order appears automatically. If not, open the app, tap the search icon, and enter your order number plus the email you used at checkout. Live tracking, delivery ETAs, and route maps load from there.

What is Shop Cash?

Shop Cash is cashback on eligible Shop Pay orders, paid out by Shopify. Balances show up in your Shop account and can be redeemed at participating stores, including Bonefrog. Not every order qualifies — terms are set by Shopify and shown at checkout.

Is shipping really carbon-neutral?

For Shop Pay orders, yes. Shopify offsets the carbon emissions from the delivery of every Shop Pay order at no extra cost to you. The offsets are funded by Shopify and verified through their Sustainability Fund.

How do I update my saved info in Shop Pay?

Open the Shop app and go to your profile, or visit shop.app and sign in. From there you can update your shipping addresses, payment methods, and notification preferences.

Who do I contact if something goes wrong with Shop Pay?

For order-specific questions — what was shipped, when it'll arrive, returns — contact Bonefrog directly. For Shop Pay account issues (saved cards, login, Shop Cash balance), contact Shopify's Shop support through the app or at shop.app.
