Some missions carry a heavier weight than others. On August 6, 2011, a U.S. CH-47 Chinook helicopter, call sign Extortion 17, was shot down in Afghanistan. The resulting crash was the single worst loss of U.S. military life in the history of the Afghanistan War and the greatest single loss of life ever suffered by the U.S. Special Operations Command.
